Donner-Peltier Distillers

Donner-Peltier Distillers has only been around since 2012, but its history goes back way farther than that. Co-founder Henry Peltier’s grandfather purchased an abandoned sugar mill in Thibodaux in 1937, and since then the family has revived the sugar-making operation.

Fast-forward to today, and Peltier, along with wife Jennifer and husband-and-wife team Tom and Beth Donner, oversees the production of rum and other liquors that originated from his grandfather’s sugar mill. Pour yourself a glass of one of Donner-Peltier’s rum, and you’ll be tasting 75 years of family history.

Visitors are invited to tour Donner-Peltier’s state-of-the-art operation in Thibodaux to see how the distillery’s six liquors are created. Rum varieties include the Rougaroux Full Moon Dark Rum (named for the mysterious swamp creature said to inhabit the sugar cane fields), the Rougaroux Sugarshine (Donner-Peltier’s clear rum variety) and the 13 Pennies Praline Rum (flavored with toasted pecans and vanilla beans).

Rum is not all the company makes, though. Donner-Peltier, staying true to its roots, produces vodka that is made using rice grown in Rayne, Louisiana. The company spares no expense in achieving high quality for its Oryza Vodka label, distilling the spirit a whopping 17 times before bottling.

Gin and whiskey fans are also in luck. Stock up your liquor cabinet with a bottle of Donner-Peltier’s Oryza Gin and LA1 Whiskey—both hand crafted in small batches and full of Louisiana flavor.
