Cane River Brewing

Founded in 1714, Natchitoches is the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase territory, making it a notable destination on its own. In 2018, Natchitoches natives and Northwestern State University alumni Justin Krouse and Cade Gentry founded Cane River Brewing (CRB) as a fresh new addition to this historic town after noticing a lack of craft beer in the area. The brewery shows appreciation to its community and its history. It’s housed in a refurbished cotton gin building that is nearly a century old, and they put it best: “The overlap between this historic space and the birth of a new business is a perfect representation of what Natchitoches is all about: rooted in history but constantly evolving.”

As you’ll see on each can, their motto is “No Wake Zone,” representing the founders’ beliefs in taking the time to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life. For them, the best way to do this is to gather and have some great beer. CRB lives by their motto by radiating the typical Louisiana attitude to treat one another like family. Whether you’re a local friend or an out-of-town visitor, you’ll surely be welcomed with open arms into their community.

Featuring live music, yoga, trivia nights and more, there’s no shortage of fun activities to participate in while sipping on your delicious cold brews. CRB shows love for the community by partnering with other local organizations for unique events, such as their “Brews & Boards” beverages and board games for grown-ups in partnership with the Natchitoches Parish Library. If you’re looking for a bite with your booze, look out for the brewery’s dinner and beer pairings with local eateries.

Not only do they support their own community, but they have a passion for all of Louisiana. After the city of Ruston was hit by tornados in 2019, CRB brewed a limited edition peach ale aptly named “The Ruston Peach.” For each pint purchased, 100% of the proceeds were donated to tornado relief efforts in Ruston.

Cane River Brewing offers four core beers – American Pale Ale, India Pale Ale, Brown Ale, and Pilsner in addition to limited release and seasonal flavors. They’re open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, so make sure to plan a visit to the brewery for your weekend trip to Natchitoches!
